HOW TO SEND the text file from a Windows or a Mac system

  • if you are not using Microsoft Word
      1. On a Mac, you could use Simple Text and save in .rft (rich text format) format from any word processor such as Claris or Apple word processor.  Save and attach it as a rich text format file.  It may help if you rename and the file extension .rft before you send it, if the Mac doesn't add these automatically to the file names. Word 98 on a Mac is just great. Send the .doc files as attachments.
      2. Wordpad is on every Windows 95 and  98 system.
      3. Go to Start, then Programs, then Accessories, then Wordpad.
      4. Once you have found Wordpad, use Save to name the file and save it in a folder where you will know where to find it later. While you are in the Save dialogue box note that you have a choice of file types available at the bottom of the dialogue box. Look at the choices by clicking the small arrow button. Use either Word for Windows or Rich Text Format (RTF).
      5. Keep this empty named Wordpad file open, but you can minimize it with the minus sign top right corner of the screen.
      6. Next open the program you used to create the file.
      7. Open the file you want to copy and paste into Wordpad.
      8. Go to Edit, Select All, to highlight the whole thing.
      9. Go to Edit, Copy (while it is highlighted). There are also keyboard ways to do these actions.
      10. Bring up the Wordpad empty file that you named in step 3 above. If you minimized it, the file name will be along the bottom of the monitor. Click it to bring it up.
      11. With the cursor blinking in the blank Wordpad page, go to Edit, and to Paste. You should see the whole thing appear in the Wordpad page.
      12. Go to File, Save and save it in the Wordpad file. You filename should be showing at the top of the window.
      13. Close the file before attempting to attach it to an e-mail.
      14. If your e-mail allows you to send attachments, attach it to an e-mail message and send the file.
    HOW TO SEND attachments, and
HOW TO TEST YOUR PROCESS TO LEARN HOW TO DO IT RIGHT
    1. Not every e-mail program sends and receives attachments, but most of them do.
    2. Find Attach File on one of the top drop down menus or tool bar buttons and click on it.
    3. Using the dialogue box, move to the folder that has the file.  It is often in My Documents, but it depends on where the file was saved.
    4. If you can't find where it is saved, you can cancel and use Start, Find, and type the file name in the dialogue box and click the Find Now.  Once it is located, go back to attaching it as in steps 3 and 4 above.
    5. Once you find the file, double click it and it will be attached to your e-mail when it is sent.
    6. Start by addressing an e-mail message to yourself and put goshenvoice.com in the subject line.
    7. If you have never sent an attachment, attach it to an e-mail you have addressed to yourself. Yes you can send e-mail to yourself.  Put your own e-mail address in the To: place.  Try one and see how long it takes to get back to you.
    8. If the attachment comes through to yourself, you did it right.
    9. REMINDER  If you forward or reply a message with an attachment, the file will generally not be attached anymore.  You have to attach it to the message again if you want to send it along.

This doesn't mean that traffic is similar to nuclear waste. It means that we have a responsibility speak up when we are concerned by government proposals that may effect our neighborhoods.  If we don't, who will?  mb
